ginger Jingzhe Fan grew up in Beijing, where she currently works. She graduated from The Cooper Union in 2025 with the Robert Breer Film Award. Her practice moves through writing, sound, and performance.

According to the Chinese agricultural calendar, ginger was born on Jingzhe, the third solar term when insects awaken. It suits someone preoccupied with nature and the architecture of ecological time.
Lately, she has been drawn to objects and ideas that accumulate time as tension, then release it without warning. This force can be traced across seismic events, in the slow violence of exhausted ecosystems, and in signals that arrive late but hit hard.
She thinks about this in relation to the notion of wrathful compassion in tantric Buddhism, where destruction functions not as moral conclusion, but as interruption: an alert, a forced exit from the comfort of repetition.
