An industrial 555nm yellow-green laser diode is attached to the gourd on the right. Meanwhile, the gourd in the middle has an ultrasonic transducer tied to its top, emitting frequencies beyond human hearing (20 Hz - 20 kHz): The transducer attempts to communicate with its counterpart — a receiver clinging to the plant's climbing bracket. Two transducers, functioning as oscillators, are also clipped to the bracket, sending out periodic electrical signals ranging between 39 kHz and 40 kHz. These oscillators regulate the conversation between the transducer and receiver, keeping it within this range.

While ultrasonic transducers are designed for 40 kHz operation, this setup achieves better sensitivity and interaction within the specified range. Within the ultrasonic field, any movement of objects or transducers is detected and amplified through computer speakers. The system operates effectively when the transducer and receiver are between 2 to 450 centimeters apart. Physical movements of objects within this field cause variations in tone.

The gourd on the left is a rattle.
